Who can apply to suspend an old age pension on request?

There are compulsory cases for the suspension of the old age pension (attainment of a certain amount of income or the existence of certain employment relationships), but Section 83/A of the Act on Social Security Pensions also allows the old age pensioner to request the Pension Payment Directorate to suspend the pension paid for the month (or even for several months) in question. In such a case, the Pension Payment Directorate shall issue a decision to suspend the payment of the benefit and the pension is suspended until the pensioner requests its resumption.

During the period of suspension, the person concerned shall continue to be considered as a pensioner.

From when is the old age pension suspended?

The old age pension is suspended from the first day of the calendar month following the month in which the application is submitted if the applicant has not taken up pension benefits for the period after the suspension started or repays the pension benefits taken up within 30 days of receiving the suspension decision. In the case of non-repayment, the suspension shall take effect from the first day of the month following the month in which the payment deadline expired.

For how long is the old age pension suspended?

The payment of the old age pension is suspended at the request of the beneficiary until they request its resumption.

When can the pension be paid again?

The pension shall also be resumed by decision of the Pension Payment Directorate on the basis of a request from the pensioner. Unless the client specifies a different date, the date from which the pension shall be paid again is the first day of the calendar month following the month in which the request is submitted.

When the pension is paid again, the amount of the pension shall be increased by the amount of any interim pension increases from the date of suspension until the date of payment again, and by any increase in the amount of the pension acquired through gainful activity while receiving an own pension after the suspension, increased by the interim increases.

Which body decides on the suspension?

The suspension and the resumption of payment shall be decided by a decision of the Pension Payment Directorate on the basis of an application by the person receiving a benefit.
